The Construction and Deconstruction of Identity

Dressed as bearded woman we begin outside under two flood lights with two brick walls 5 feet apart from each other. The walls represent identity, realities, fluctuation, structure, support, security and a barricade. Throughout the duration of the evening, we will slowly take bricks from each others wall and add them onto our own, constantly deconstructing and reconstructing the image; and our ideas of identity and self.
For the duration of the night we are bound together by an over sized elastic band. This acts as a reminder that even though we are loosing and re-discovering ourselves, that we are not alone in this action. It is an act of experimentation and we are there as support for one another. We aim to represent an image of revolution; exploring the give and take of identities, the struggle and work that goes along with finding one’s self and the knowledge that the quest of identity is constantly being reevaluated and changing.
