FAT (Fashion Art Toronto)

We created an installation and performance exploring the theme Fashion Evolution by means of the body and body hair. For the first intermission between fashion shows we showed ourselves more like statues , allowing the audience to gaze upon us and our installation. The second intermission, we presented a sign that gave the audience direction to come into the space, take pre-cut hair and pin it onto our nylon covered bodies. Each new day, the previous body suits will be hung on display to show the evolution of the work. We are interested in the idea of how body hair has gone through trends and showing the evolution of what is in Vogue for the hair. We are creating images of the strange embroidered on top of the normal and in doing so we are confronting society's ideals of 'unflattering' hair and body image. We choose to bask within the beauty of being hairy.
